Choosing a counsellor is a deeply personal decision. That's why I share information about my approach and who I am in the different sections of my website. To help you determine if this is the right fit for you, I also offer a no-commitment free 30-minute introductory call.

Insights from the People I Worked Alongside:

Working with a counselor is a deeply personal experience, and it can vary greatly from one person to another. That said, I’d like to share a few pieces of feedback I’ve received. I hope these offer you some insight into what to expect and help you decide if my approach could be a good fit for you.

"I highly recommend counseling with Auriane. She is empathetic, an excellent listener, and very insightful. Our conversations always feel very equal, because I never feel judged and Auriane creates a space where I can share openly. Working with her has had a profound impact on my mental health. By using Internal Family Systems (IFS), we went beyond simple analysis, allowing me to connect with my emotions on a deeper level. Auriane's role has been crucial in guiding the process—through her thoughtful questions and reassuring presence, she helps me get to the root of my feelings. As a result, I've gained a better understanding of myself, which has led to greater self-compassion and a stronger ability to set boundaries.-Esther "

"Auriane is an incredibly supportive counsellor. I always felt like I was getting in my own way a lot, but Auriane showed me methods of how I can let my system work together rather than against itself and become less self-defeating. Auriane has a great mastery of IFS and even though I was unfamiliar with this type of therapy I always felt safe and well guided by her. She is also a very warm, nonjudgmental, and enthusiastic person who championed my successes and was empathic to where I struggled.-M."

Becoming a counsellor has been a journey. Finding what I wanted to do in my life has been a long quest.
Over the years, I've had numerous formative experiences. I studied environmental humanities, lived in Australia, and then moved to the Netherlands where I delved into gender and sexuality studies. These experiences taught me not only about myself but also about the importance of social justice and the impact of systemic oppression.Yet, I was still searching for a way to contribute meaningfully to society...

My own experience with therapy sparked a passion within me, leading me to train as a counsellor. I shifted my focus from studying systems at a societal level to understanding individuals on a personal level. Then, I discovered Internal Family Systems (IFS), and it was a revelation. IFS provided me with profound insights and a liberating sense of self-awareness. It allowed me to acknowledge and give space to all the different parts of myself, and enabled me to start working with my own system. This journey has come full circle, allowing me to offer a holistic approach to counselling. By integrating my understanding of societal systems, I can help clients explore their experiences in a broader context while honoring their individual stories and unique internal systems.I absolutely adore being a counsellor. It is such a privilege to be trusted by my clients and to witness their journeys. It's a beautiful collaborative experience where I support them in their process, and they, in turn, reflect insights back to me and inspire me.I have now moved back to Switzerland, and decided to go back to university to study psychology further. I have a supervisor whom I see multiple times a month and I am in IFS therapy myself.

What is Internal Family System or IFS?

Internal Family Systems is an evidence-based, compassion-centered model that helps people connect with their inner experience and system by engaging with different parts of themselves. If you've ever said, "Part of me feels X... and another part feels Y," then you’ve already been in contact with the different parts of you. These parts carry unique thoughts, emotions, and beliefs, often shaped by past experiences, and they play key roles in how we respond to ourselves and the world around us.The goal of IFS is to build a deeper relationship with these parts, understand their protective or helpful intentions, and listen to them with curiosity and compassion. Together, we gently update their understanding of who you are today—since many parts can get stuck in past experiences and old patterns. Over time, we work to help these parts release any heavy emotions they may have been carrying, allowing them to shift and find new perspectives. As you become more familiar with working with your parts, you’ll start to notice them as they arise—giving you the ability to connect with them in the moment or afterward (even between sessions).

Relational

We often get hurt through relationships, and we heal through connection. That’s why the presence of a therapist can be beneficial. I will guide and support you in connecting with your parts, and sometimes I will talk directly with your parts. My hope is that together, throughout the sessions, we will build a therapeutic connection where you feel comfortable sharing about any parts you might want.

Polyvagal Theory Informed

I also integrate Polyvagal Theory into my therapeutic approach to help you explore the shifts within your nervous system, as our physiological state often informs the stories we create about our experiences. By becoming aware of your nervous system's state, you can develop a deeper understanding of how it influences your perceptions and responses. When we combine this understanding with Internal Family Systems (IFS), you can become more aware of when specific parts of yourself may be taking control, helping you to see that these parts are only one aspect of your whole self.

My practice Values

My approach is non-hierarchical, what I mean by this is that I can give you the tools to explore your system, reflect back at you, but ultimately you know best what feels right, what rings true and what does not, and I will always respect that.My practice is built around psychoeducation because my goal is to give you all the tools you need so that you feel equipped outside of our sessions. My approach is non-judgmental, and my hope is for you to feel that you can share any parts of yourself at your own rhythm. I understand that some parts of us can be linked to feelings of shame, and I aim to normalize both the feelings of shame and the parts that are harder to share about.I recognize my positionality as a white, cisgender, queer woman. My practice is LGBTQIA+ friendly and sex-positive, and I strive to create a space that is as inclusive as possible.I’m committed to fostering an environment where it feels as safe as possible to share feedback and where you can let me know if something I said didn’t resonate with you.

Counselling, Not Therapy

This is a 1:1 counselling container. While similar to therapy in many key ways, one of the main differences is that this offering is not designed to treat symptoms associated with mental health diagnoses. This offering is designed to support your emotional process and provide experiential and psychoeducational learning with models such as IFS and somatic modalities.

I offer online sessions, during the week and the weekend that last between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on needs and preferences. I am based in Switzerland, but I am happy to find a time that suits if you are in a different time zone.

Initial introductory call

I offer an initial 30-minute introductory call so that we can get to know each other, discuss what you're looking for, and see if what I offer suits you and if you would feel comfortable working with me.
